Review of Luke
As we have now
reached the end of this course, we will review the main points we have
learned. This will serve as a reminder and enable you to look back at
points you wish to go over again.
-
Before Jesus
was born, events recorded show that Jesus is at the centre of God’s
plan for our world. This plan was foretold in the Old Testament and
involves Jesus reigning as king of Israel
-
Belief should
be a practical force in our lives
-
John the
Baptist came as a forerunner to Jesus. Those who were baptised showed
that they were humble enough to listen to God’s message. Humility
is required to make us change our attitudes if we are to be acceptable
to God
-
The record
of Jesus’ temptations shows that he experienced similar problems and
trials to us
-
Jesus came
to help other people understand God’s principles and His care for
them
-
Followers
of Jesus must be prepared to follow his commands, and expect difficulties
as a result
-
We cannot
be both part of God’s plan and heavily involved in this world
-
Riches,
and confidence in them, can be a great danger
-
Jesus’ miracles
show that he had the authority and power of God
-
Jesus’ miracles
show that Jesus has power over all of our problems including death
-
We have
evidence in our day to show that the same power is in God’s Word,
the Bible
-
Parables
were given to show followers of Jesus the principles he expects them
to use in their lives
-
If we are
to understand the parables, we must put some effort into finding out
their message
Jesus challenged
his disciples and us.
Based on the
evidence God has given us:
-
Do we believe
that Jesus is the Son of the living God?
-
Do we believe
that Jesus can save us from death?
-
Do we believe
that Jesus Christ is the one whom God will send back to the earth?
-
Accepting
the challenge of Jesus Christ will bring conflict and problems
-
But we can
take our problems to God in prayer
-
Our commitment
to God must come before all else
We must be careful
not to copy the attitudes of the authorities in Jesus’ day by:
-
Not giving
human writing the same authority as God’s word
-
Not having
an outward show of Godliness which hides our real motives
-
Not maintaining
our position while compromising God’s principles
-
Humility
is required if we wish to learn anything from Jesus
-
Jesus was
a prophet and foretold Jewish history right down to our time
-
Jesus also
foretold some aspects of world history
-
Following
Jesus can be very difficult at times
-
Jesus commanded
his followers to remember him in eating bread and drinking wine
-
We should
still try to have concern for others even when we are having difficulties
in life
-
We can sometimes
ignore the unpleasant parts of God’s message to us
-
Prayer is
vital in times of stress
-
Pilate was
convinced that Jesus was no ordinary man, but his personal status
was more important to him
-
Herod regarded
Jesus as a wonder worker, but had no real interest in his message
-
Despite
his past, the thief on the cross showed great faith in Jesus
-
Jesus had
to die so that our sins can be forgiven
-
The disciples
found it difficult to accept the resurrection
-
Jesus made
it clear that Peter was forgiven despite his denial
-
The resurrection
of Jesus is at the centre of God’s plan
